Barbara Allen Scroggs passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, at her daughter’s home in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born on May 1, 1941, in El Dorado, Arkansas, and lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to her family, students, and community.
A lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado, Barbara’s faith was the foundation of her life. After graduating with the Class of 1959 from El Dorado High School, she attended Southern Arkansas University, where she completed her degree in just three years before embarking on a 34-year teaching career. She was a proud Rogers Ram and made a lasting impact on generations of students.
Barbara was a dedicated member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority and cherished the lifelong friendships she built through the organization. Known and loved by many, she embraced many roles throughout her life—teacher, mother, homemaker, antique dealer, and talented cook. However, her greatest joy came from being a Maw Maw. She never missed a graduation, performance, or birthday and always ensured her grandchildren knew how to navigate life with love and wisdom.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Helen Louise and Joe C. Allen; her brother, Charles Tennyson Allen; and her husband, Ray Scroggs. She passed away on her beloved brother’s birthday, just shy of what would have been her and Ray’s 50th wedding anniversary.
Those left to honor her memory are, her brother David Allen of Hot Springs, Arkansas, her daughters Amy Michelle Allen (Tracy Alderson Allen) of Natchez, Mississippi, and Ashley Raye Brummett of Little Rock, Arkansas. Barbara has seven grandchildren, Josie Rae Allen, Abbey Layne, Kyle Brummett, Blaire Tennyson Brummett, Jewell Murphy Fort, David Eric Fort and John Hudson Fort.
Barbara’s legacy of kindness, devotion, and strength will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Loved ones are welcome to join the family for a graveside service at Arlington Memorial Cemetery on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
