Betty Catherine Gean May, 88, of El Dorado passed away Monday September 16, 2024.
Born June 15, 1936 in Star City, AR, she was the daughter of Herbert and Dora Lee McCool Gean.
Betty was a 1954 graduate of Sheridan High School and married Winfred “Winkie” May in 1956. They located to Russellville where Winkie played football and baseball while Betty worked in the Student Affairs office for John Tucker. They moved to El Dorado in 1969 and Betty worked at the East Campus of El Dorado High School. She soon took a job at Second Baptist Church working for Rev. Bruce Murphy. Betty later retired from United Insurance Agency after working there 27 years.
Preceding her in death along with her parents were her husband “Winkie” May, and sisters, Leta Mae Gean, Hazel Gean Reeves and Diane Bogard.
Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Turner of Norphlet and Karrie Cates, (Allen) of El Dorado. Surviving grandchildren are Brandon Turner of Hampton, Lauren Boyd (Dan) of Downsville, LA, Reagan Cates of Fayetteville, and Reid Cates of El Dorado along one great-grandchild, Pierce Boyd. Also surviving is one brother, Herbert Gean (Carolyn) of Greenbrier.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 19, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Young’s. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 20, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Norphlet with Rev. Larry Hudson and Rev. Doug Wills officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Lost Creek Cemetery at Sheridan, Arkansas under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
Serving as pallbearers are Brandon Turner, Reagan Cates, Reid Cates, Dan Boyd, Roger Rasico and John Bolding.
