Charles Lee Rankin

Charles Lee Rankin, age 68, of El Dorado, AR, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. He was the anchor that held us steady in good times and bad, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and coach whose impact will be felt for generations to come.

Born on January 27, 1957, Charles was the son of the late Anna Pearl (Green) and James M. Rankin. He grew up with a strong sense of family and community, values that he carried throughout his life. He pursued his education at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where he developed a passion for teaching, mentoring, and coaching—roles that would become his life's work.

Charles was a man deeply devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Carol Rankin; his children, Kim Conner (Dave) and Jake Rankin (Haley); and four cherished grandchildren, Cooper, Charlie, JC, and Ruby, who were the lights of his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Phil (Patsi), Richard, and Terry (Tammy), along with special nieces and nephews who brought him great joy.

A beloved educator, mentor, and coach, Charles made an indelible impact on his students and athletes in the El Dorado School District, where he taught for many years. His influence extended far beyond the classroom and the field—he shaped lives, instilled values, and inspired others to be their best selves. He had a way of making every student feel seen, every athlete feel capable, and every colleague feel like family.

Charles was an instrument of peace who loved to love on people. He never met a stranger, and his kindness and generosity knew no bounds. Whether he was cheering from the sidelines, catching up with friends in the stands, or making his rounds at VFW, Dollar Tree, Brookshire’s, Atwoods, and Walmart, he always carried a warmth that made every encounter meaningful. His presence was a gift, and his absence leaves a void that can only be filled by the love he so freely gave.

A celebration of life for Charles will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Wildcat Arena, Wildcat Dr, El Dorado, AR 71730. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Magdalene House El Dorado or Barton Gives Back, causes that were close to his heart.

Coach Rankin served God by serving others. His legacy is not just in the lessons he  taught, the games he coached, or the moments he shared—it lives on in the kindness we show, the love we give, and the support we offer to our community. We can honor his memory wherever we are, simply by lifting each other up, just as he always did.
