James Edwin Hammond

James Edwin Hammond. Born Jan 20, 1949. Entered into Heaven on Dec 10, 2024.

Jamie is preceded in death by his parents, Hammett Hoyt (Pitt) Hammond and Newell Wood Hammond, as well as his elder brother Raymond D. (Gyp) Hammond.

Jamie is survived by his only son, Christopher Alan Hammond; his brother, Gary Hammond; Sister through marriage, Debra Hammond (Gary’s); nieces, Magen Friedmann (Jonathan) and Natalie Morgan (John); nephews James Donald Johnson and Michael Brett Johnson; numerous grand-nieces and grand nephews; and countless Old Hot-Rodder Brothers.

Jamie graduated from El Dorado High School in 1967 and later attended Ouachita Baptist University as well as later studying drafting at El Dorado Vocational Technical School.

He worked as a mechanic at the JJ Lincoln Mercury dealership and later at Jake Carnes American Station. Jamie later served as a Customer Service Technician for Southwestern Bell until his position was transferred to AT&T and ultimately downsized. He served as a Foreman for Prescolite before returning to Southwestern Bell and retired from AT&T.

Jamie served his nation in the Army Reserves for 6 years as a photographer.

Jamie and his brothers were known for their excellence in building and driving quick cars. He was known to possess a source of vast knowledge on “Hot Rod” Chevrolets, among other topics as well as his willingness to lend a hand to friends in need.

He will indeed be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Young’s.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, in Young’s Chapel with Otis McCroskey officiating.  Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
