Raymond “Pops” L. Johnson, 95, Bentonville, Arkansas (formerly El Dorado) died peacefully on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas.
He was born March 1, 1929, in Hope, Arkansas to J.M. Johnson and Eula Lewis Johnson. El Dorado was his home for over 74 years, and he was a very active member in his community.
He spent many years in the Civitan Club, served on various other community boards, and was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church. He loved the years he spent coaching his boys in baseball, was an avid golfer up until almost the end, and thoroughly enjoyed his gardening. He started Dixie Maintenance Service, Inc. in 1960 and Johnson Employer Support Services in 1975 and both are still in business today.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Eula Jo Johnson, a brother, J.M. Johnson, the love of his life and wife of 63 years, Loree “Moms” Hare Johnson, and an infant son, Raymond L. Johnson, Jr.
Survivors include his sons Robert Johnson (Sheila) of Bentonville and Richard Johnson (Tammy) of Little Rock; grandchildren Jenifer Miller (Glen) of Aledo, TX, Houston Hornibrook (Julia) of Rogers, Chris Johnson (Meredith) of Little Rock, Katie Sorensen (Garret) of North Little Rock, Shannon Walters (Herbie) of North Little Rock, and Spencer Johnson of Little Rock.
He was also blessed with and left to cherish his memory 16 great grandchildren Maddox Miller, Mallory Miller, Vivian Hornibrook, Anniston Hornibrook, Michael Hornibrook, Katherine Hornibrook, Hannah Johnson, Alex Johnson, Brynne Johnson, Catherine Johnson, Maddie Sorenson, Max Sorenson, Gage Sorenson, Lauren Walters Howell (Coby), Jett Walters, Jack Walters and one great great grandson, Sayre Howell.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and funeral services to follow at 1:30 p.m. at El Dorado Global Methodist Church (formerly St. Mark United Methodist Church), 2010 W. Hillsboro St. in El Dorado with Rev. Amy Machen and Dr. David Bush officiating. Burial will be at Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
