Steven Lee Shofner

Steven Lee Shofner of El Dorado, Arkansas passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2025 leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew him.  Born on May 29, 1950 in Stuttgart, AR, he was the son of Myron Lee and Billye Roberts Shofner.  In 1951 the family moved to El Dorado where his father started an optometry practice.

Steven attended Centenary College, where he was a member of the Centenary Choir, and went on to finish his degree in speech and drama at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  He continued his education by getting his Master's in English at Louisiana Tech University and a Master's in education at Texas Christian University.

Teaching English in the El Dorado School System for 28 years gave him joy and purpose.  He was dedicated to education, and wanted to pass on his passion for literature and the power of language.  His true reward was witnessing the successes  and growth of his students.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring as a dedicated officer.

Throughout his life Steven pursued various passions.  He enjoyed sports while excelling in tennis and gymnastics.  He loved gardening, a good book, Shakespeare, acting and cooking for his family and friends.

Steven had a true love of El Dorado and the people who lived there.  He almost never missed a poker night or a concert at Murphy Arts District.  He brought a special magic to the camera while acting in several short films.

Steven's life was a testament to passion, dedication, and unwavering love for his family, friends and students.

He is survived by his brother, Mark Shofner and his wife Lisa Shofner; his sister, Sylvia Ramsaur and husband Jack Ramsaur; along with his nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Steven's life will be held at Young's Funeral Directors Chapel in El Dorado at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2025 with a reception for family and friends to follow at the South Arkansas Arts Center, 110 East 5th Street, El Dorado, Arkansas.
