William David Varnell

On March 4th, 2025, William David Varnell passed from his earthly life. He was born November 21, 1945 to Nellie Kelly Varnell and Thomas H. Varnell. William graduated from Centenary College and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity with whom he has stayed in touch all these years.

William married his soul mate in January of 1968.  His professional life began with Arkansas Best Freight where he worked until 1976. He purchased the Spudnut Shoppe from his mother-in-law and operated the business for 33 years. After selling the shop he was Parish Manager for Holy Redeemer.

William had many interests including history horses, canoeing, and traveling with his family.  He is a member of Holy Redeemer, Knights of Columbus, and worked in various ministries.

William was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Carolyn Dzurik, and a son, David Varnell.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Nancy, his daughter, Marcy, and his only grandchild, Dr. Skyler MaCoy, along with nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Young’s Funeral Directors with a Rosary service following.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 7, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Edward D’Almeida officiating.  Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

Memorial gifts would be greatly appreciated instead of flowers for Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or to the donor’s personal choice.
